The place of birth and memory of one of the most famous songs in the world! Very contemplative place right at the start of the Advent season.

If you like the song Silent Night, this is the place for you. Very beautiful and devout place.

Beautiful memorial chapel because the church where Silent Night sounded for the first time in 1818 is no longer there. Even then, the times in which the song was composed were not easy. Not at the moment and yet life goes on.

Just beautiful. Best in winter as there is always snow there. Understanding the original version of the world-famous 'Silent Night Holy Night' by Gruber and Mohr is wonderful. Together with the Christmas shooters on Christmas Eve, Christmas is what it should be and what it should convey as a message

We went and watched the service on Christmas Eve. It was raining quite heavily and stopped just before. A nice Christmas market and lots of people had gathered for the occasion. Parking was easy (on the street, free) and it was easy to leave at the end.

Quite little chapel must visit

We visited the Stille Nacht Kapelle during Christmas week which made it special. It’s a little ways outside of Salzburg but not too far. Well worth the drive. Since I speak German and have traveled Germanic countries extensively and have lived in Deutschland, it’s been a life goal for me to visit the Kapelle where it is said that Silent Night was written and first performed. It certainly was a neat experience and did not disappoint. Make this a part of your trip if you are anywhere near here. Each Christmas you’ll always remember your time here.

Lovely chapel showcasing the birth place of Silent Night. Christmas Markets open tomorrow 12th December and add another attraction to the area. Gift shop available to buy souvenirs.

Very nice chapel, the river is just a few steps beyond the grounds. I liked the gift shop too!

Nice church

This is a sacred and peaceful little chapel. It is located in a small town, Oberndorf, Austria that is probably best known as the location of the first singing of Silent Night, a hymn that is now known to billions of people in nearly every language. We were there on the 200th anniversary of Silent Night. It is an hour and a half from Munich and is will worth the time to visit.
